The Virginia men's soccer team took down St. Johns 2-0 in the second round of the NCAA tournament Sunday at Klockner stadium and advanced to the round of 16 for the first time since 2009.
Virginia made its 33rd-consecutive NCAA tournament appearance - the longest current streak in Division I soccer.
The Cavaliers got a first-half goal from Ryan Zinkhan and a second-half score from Eric Bird. Bird also had an assist to Zinkhan's first half goal.
Zinkhan said, "All week in practice we had that bad taste in our mouth that we wanted that next game because we kind of got it stolen away from us in the ACC championship. So we wanted to come back out and go after another trophy."
Head coach, George Gelnovatch said, "Getting that first goal, how we managed the game, you know playing together, passes we put together, getting the second goal. Just everything about it was very methodical and professional."
The Cavaliers will face Marquette in the round of 16 next Sunday.
