Hundreds of Charlottesville families will have a turkey on the table this Thanksgiving thanks to the community's donations.

The Young Black Professional Network hosted its first "Feed a Family" turkey giveaway at the Jefferson School City Center on Sunday.

More than 150 turkeys were distributed for free to people who came through and registered.

Organizers say the event is a great example of giving back for the holidays.

“This shows the power of our community when we decide to come together and do something for everyone, opposed to doing something for certain individuals,” says YBPN president Wes Bellamy.

People started lining up three hours before the event started to get their hands on a free turkey.

Organizers hope to make this an annual event that encourages the community to pay it forward.
