Chinese School Officials Tour CHS Language Program
Charlottesville High School students impressed some international visitors Friday, and they did it in Chinese.
Officials who work in schools in China were on their way back from a conference in Washington, D.C., Friday but when Charlottesville High School contacted them about their language program, they decided to stop by and experience it firsthand.
Students from the AP Chinese class spoke about testing, afterschool activities, and school diversity. Two years ago, they all took a trip to China through their school program, giving them insight into both cultures' approach to schooling.
Student Pearl Rissberg says she feels lucky to be a part of the program.
"Hopefully they'll be impressed with our large culture and language department, which I'm personally really proud of to be a part of. I mean, not a lot of high schools in Charlottesville, not a lot of high schools in the country really, have developed Chinese programs,” Rissberg said.
The Chinese visitors were principals, teachers, and school directors. They were honored by the passion the students showed towards learning their culture and brought gifts for them.
Afterwards, students took the visitors on a tour through their school, explaining everything in Chinese.
