Creigh Deeds is out of the hospital after being stabbed multiple times by his son. Now the state Senator is talking publicly for the first time, through social media.
A University of Virginia Medical Center spokesperson says Deeds left the hospital Friday morning. We don't know if he is at home tonight, but he did reach out for the first time using his Twitter account. In a tweet sent at 11:25 a.m., Deeds wrote: "I am alive so must live. Some wounds won't heal. Your prayers and your friendship are important to me."
Deeds was airlifted from his Bath County home Tuesday after police say his son Gus stabbed him multiple times and then shot himself with a rifle. Police are still investigating what prompted the fight.
An emergency custody order was issued for Gus Deeds Monday, but he was released, and a state investigation into why he was released is underway.
A music tribute for Deeds is now trending on Twitter under #CreighTunes because he has a passion for music. The subsequent retweets gave way to an outpouring of hundreds of song recommendations throughout the week.
Candace Bryan Abbey, author of the tweet that spurred the social media tribute and the wife of Deeds' 2009 campaign manager, thought the right songs might offer some measure of comfort to the Deeds family.
