Squash Tournament Raises Money for Breast Cancer Screenings
Second Annual "Squash Cancer" Tournament
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -
Squash players of all ages hit the courts in Albemarle County on Sunday to raise money for breast cancer screenings at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
The hospital's women's committee hosted its second annual "Squash Cancer" tournament in the new McArthur Squash Center. More than 50 players competed in singles and doubles matches across ten courts.
The committee says doctors and patients see the results of supporting preventative breast health services.
“It's a great service and we have had multiple people have been called back for follow-up services,” said “Squash Cancer” chairperson Sharon Greene. “We have caught some cases of breast cancer through this program.”
Last year, the squash tournament raised about $2,500. The women's committee hopes to get more community involvement and sponsors on board for next year.
