Albemarle Supervisors Approve Plan to Develop Near Darden Towe Park
Wooded area near Darden Towe Park
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
A section of land along the Rivanna River could soon rival Charlottesville’s downtown mall. Albemarle County supervisors have given the green light for a new development. The plan is to build on a wooded area near Darden Towe Park.
Gordonsville Realty Investments is looking to put in dozens of housing units, as well as space for businesses and restaurants. Eight acres of the property will also be turned over to the county to serve as a public park.
The developers say they have big plans for the area in the future.
"They're very much in favor of development along the river that sort of embraces it rather than turns its back. So we want this to be somewhere where anybody in the community will come, park, have dinner, go for a walk along the river, maybe do some kayaking or things of that nature,” said Chris Henry of Gordonsville Realty Investments.
Developers have also agreed to build an additional two lanes to Route 20 and add a sidewalk that extends from the development to Route 250. They expect work to begin in spring or summer of next year.
