Task Force Shares Vision for Belmont Bridge with Project’s Architect
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
The future of Charlottesville's Belmont Bridge got a lot of attention Thursday. Members of the city's Placemaking, Livability and Community Engagement (PLACE) task force got together to toss around some ideas.
The project's architect and engineer, Wylie Cooke, sat down with the task force to hear about its vision. One idea is to rebuild the bridge with a shorter span and add wide bike lanes and lighting.
"We really looked at a lot of ideas, explored a lot of ideas, a lot of conversation as to how to replace the Belmont Bridge into more of an urban environment, smaller bridge,” Cooke said.
The public can give their input about the future of the bridge next Thursday at a meeting at CitySpace from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
