Thursday night, Monticello High School's drama department is setting the stage to help one of its own who's been through a tough year. It's a performance that could change the life of one student and his family.

Junior Peña is a MHS drama student. His family lost everything when their trailer burned down earlier this year. Now, his friends are eager to lend their talents to help him and his family.

Students are describing it as a talent show. It's a mixture of performances- from a play written by students, to songs, to dancing. There will even be a cupcake auction.

Students say they feel good about raising money for Junior any way they can.

"He's in the process of being loved by a lot of people because, I mean, in a position like that you lose everything," said MHS senior Braelyn Schenk. "We have a lot to give as a community so there's no reason not to."

The event is free and open to the public. The students are asking for donations that will go toward basic necessities for Junior's family and toward helping them rebuild their home.

The performances get underway Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Monticello High School auditorium.
