Waynesboro is looking to grow its tourism revenue with something called “tourism development zones,” designated areas that offer incentives to desirable businesses.
The three proposed zones are downtown Waynesboro, East Main Street off Afton Mountain, and the Interstate 64 exit by Starbucks. Incentives vary based on certain factors including the degree of capital improvements and jobs created, but participating businesses could get training scholarships, job creation grants, reimbursement on real estate tax and building permits, and other benefits
City Council will consider an ordinance on tourism zones November 24.
