Car Wash Program Promotes Eco-Friendly Water Use

Posted: Updated:

Thanks to a new program, drivers have more options for getting their cars washed without guzzling large amounts of water.

The city of Charlottesville and Albemarle County have developed a new carwash certification program to promote water conservation. Certified carwashes that choose to participate will have their per-car water use directly measured and the results posted online.

"It's been a case really where the car wash businesses have been anxious for us to develop the program because they want people to know the water-efficient processes that they have been involved with for some time and this gets the word out to our customers,” said environmental compliance specialist Tim Brown.

The program should give people a better idea of where eco-friendly businesses are.
