People with disabilities came together to learn about their right to fair housing at a workshop Wednesday afternoon at the Water Street Center, hosted by the Piedmont Housing Alliance and the Jefferson Area Disability Services Board.
Members from the PHA broke down the meaning of the Fair Housing Act and gave attendees with housing concerns one-on-one assistance.
"There are so many barriers that people may face, we want to make sure that individuals are educated about their rights and that they are informed consumers,” said Karen Reifenberger, a member of the PHA.
Workshop organizers talked about the rights people with disabilities have to request changes to their homes to make them safer.
