Charlottesville police are tracking new leads in the disappearance of DaShad Smith. But one year later, Smith is still missing along with the person police believe is connected to the case.
Smith, also known as Sage, was last seen about 5 p.m. November 20, 2012. Police say Smith had phone contact with Erik McFadden that day. The two planned to meet on West Main Street.
Investigators say the leads continue to come in, and they stress they are looking for both DaShad Smith and Erik McFadden. In the past 30 days, one lead took investigators to the Tidewater area on a possible sighting. Investigators are still asking for people to come forward with any information.
“Any small piece of information, even though you may think it's not very important, is really important to these detectives as they continue our search for DaShad," said Lt. Ronnie Roberts with the Charlottesville Police Department.
McFadden had told police he was in New York City the week Smith disappeared. His whereabouts are unknown at this time.
