Donations from Hunters Help Feed the Hungry in Central VA

Posted: Updated:

Hunters are stepping up and sharing their catch to help out neighbors in need across central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley thanks to “Hunters for the Hungry.” The program takes in the donations, processes them and gives them to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

Most of the donated meat is venison, which is a lean, healthy source of protein, not typically offered by the food bank.

"The way it benefits the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is that last year for example, they gave us 4,000 pounds of venison and other meats that were hunted. What that equates to for our clients is over 3,000 meals,” said Joe Caputi, Charlottesville branch manager for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
