CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
A group of students from South America wrapped up its week-long stay in Charlottesville with some community service Monday afternoon.
More than 20 high school students from Bolivia and Peru volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity store through the University of Virginia Center for Politics' Youth Ambassador Program. The group helped with different projects including painting furniture, cleaning windows, and raking leaves.
“By bringing students here, we build really solid positive relationships with them and future leaders. This is a highly select group of students from Bolivia and Peru, they all speak English beautifully, and they're excited to be here,” said Daman Irby of the UVA Center for Politics.
The students have participated in a number of programs during their stay that focus on leadership training, civic engagement, and cultural awareness.
