McDonnell Speaks at Richmond Veterans Day Ceremony
November 11 marked the end of World War I but these days, it means the nation honoring more than 21 million veterans.
Hundreds gathered in Richmond Monday morning at the Virginia War Memorial to pay tribute to the men and women who have fought, and continue to fight, for our freedom. Army veteran Governor Bob McDonnell says Veterans Day is an important reminder to thank our military for their sacrifices every chance you get.
“We have a special love and appreciation and understanding that freedom really is not free. And it comes with the sacrifice and the blood that we see in the American flag of men and women in uniform,” McDonnell said.
Veterans groups laid more than a dozen wreaths inside the memorial's shrine of memory in honor of Virginia's military, and others fighting around the world.
