Within Days, Red Cross Aids 3 Local Families after Fires

Posted: Updated: 11/11/2013 5:58:51 PM

The American Red Cross is helping its third local family in just over a week after their homes were hit by flames.

A November 4 fire damaged a house on Riverside Avenue and another, five days later, started in a bedroom in Friendship Court on Garrett Street - both in Charlottesville. The latest fire hit a home along Red's Place off Markwood Road in Dyke just after 1:30 Monday afternoon, which Albemarle first responders determined to be caused by an electrical malfunction.

Albemarle County's assistant fire marshal says the house is a total loss, and that an electrical problem sparked the flames.

American Red Cross Press Release

The American Red Cross is providing disaster relief assistance for a family of six– two adults and four children – displaced by a house fire Monday afternoon on Red's Place Street in Dyke (Albemarle County). The Red Cross is providing the individuals with financial assistance to help with meals and clothing, and will continue to coordinate recovery assistance.
