#25 UVa Basketball Gears Up for #14 VCU on Top 25 Clash Eve

Posted: Updated:

There is quite a buzz revolving around Tuesday nights college basketball clash between 25th ranked Virginia and 14th ranked Virginia Commonwealth.

The game at John Paul Jones Arena is sold out, it's the first time Virginia and VCU have played each other in 15 years and both teams are 1-0 this season.

UVa is coming off a 20 point win over JMU. Meanwhile, VCU beat Illinois State by almost 40.

Tuesday's game will be an interesting battle of contrasting styles. Virginia's has its methodical half-court offense with pack-line defense. VCU on the other hand has an up-tempo style with a suffocating full court press.

Cav's coach Tony Bennett and Rams coach Shaka Smart both coached together this summer on the us under-19 championship team.

Tomorrow's game is a very anticipated match up because both teams are ranked and the two programs haven't played in a while.

Bennett said, "Should be an intense atmosphere, there's a lot of excitement anytime you play a team in your state that's as good as VCU has been.  I know our fans are excited as we are.  You better be ready when you go against VCU, I tell our guys that, because of how explosive they are, how fast they are."

Smart said, "For our teams, it's a chance to test ourselves because when you play a team as good as Virginia and as talented as Virginia and as experienced as Virginia, its definitely a big challenge."
