Flagpole installed at Wayne Hills Center
WAYNESBORO, Va (WVIR) -
A Waynesboro school has a new and patriotic look thanks to one student's Eagle Scout project. The maintenance department installed a 40-foot flagpole Monday morning at Wayne Hills Center.
Isaac Edwards, 13, decided that Veterans Day would be an appropriate time for the project to be completed. He says he was inspired because he believes that every school should have that symbol of America.
Edwards’ planning to add the flagpole at Wayne Hills Center started early this year and fundraising efforts began in the summer. Altogether, between 40 and 50 donors contributed $3,700 for the project.
Edwards says he's so grateful for the support and happy to see it all come together.
"A lot of good responses. They're really excited. And they have contributed really well to my project and I'm really thankful for that,” said Edwards.
Edwards wants to put together a ceremony to formally unveil the flagpole to the community sometime after Thanksgiving. He plans to invite veterans in the area, the students at Wayne Hills Center and also anyone else who wants to come out and celebrate.
