UVa Women's Soccer Earns Top Seed for NCAA Tournament

Posted: Updated:

The UVa women's soccer team is the number one overall seed for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Virginia will host St. Francis (PA) in a first round match up Friday at Klockner at 7pm.

The Cavaliers went undefeated during the regular season and had a record of 20-0 before losing to Virginia Tech 4-2 in the ACC semifinals on Friday.

All four top-seeds in the NCAA Tournament went to ACC teams. Florida State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Virginia all claimed #1 seeds.

UVa head coach, Steve Swanson said, "It's hard because I am not sure anyone else really appreciates it unless your in there fighting, slugging away. I think it's a good statement for our conference to get all four number one seeds."

Senior Defender Annie Steinlage added, "We're excited and expecting the best from anybody. Knowing that the people we've been playing this season so far, that we've already seen, are amongst the top, I think gives us a little confidence."
