Posted: Updated:

On Monday afternoon, Charlottesville high school honored track and field coach Curtis Elder by naming the track after him.

Elder coached at CHS for 44 years and won seven state championships, 20 district championships and 20 regional championships.

Elder was also a nominee for National Coach of the Year in track and field in 2005.

"I have a lot of great memories," said Elder. Mainly I remember the kids and what they did and how much fun I had. Those kids, I was their dad in a way. I loved them all. They were my kids and I enjoyed everything they did."
