Charter Schools Receive Grants from Education Dept.
Two public charter schools in Albemarle County are taking learning to new heights thanks to state grants.
Murray High School and the Community Public Charter School have received $46,000 from the Virginia Department of Education. The money will allow the Community Public Charter School to enhance its art program and pay artists to come into the classroom. At Murray, it will fund student presentations.
"We're excited about the opportunity for students to go through the process of writing a grant. It won't be quite as involved as our grant was, but nonetheless, it will be an application process and they will have to defend what they intend to do with the money,” said Ashby Kindler, the principal of both schools.
The funding will help purchase supplies or equipment. Students will be able to apply for mini-grants up to $250 apiece to support their research.
