Virginia senator Tim Kaine is introducing a bill this week aimed at improving the quality of education for veterans.
The Servicemember Education Reform and Vocational Enhancement - or SERVE - act will require institutions accepting educational benefits to meet minimum standards. The legislation is also geared toward improving transparency of education and training programs.
Kaine says the bill would allow veterans to gain skills that translate into jobs.
"It makes sure that these veterans who have finite benefits, that they're going to use those benefits in places that will really equip them for the jobs for tomorrow, rather than use the benefits and find that it wasn't actually a very good program," he said.
This legislation is a companion to Kaine's first bill called the Troop Talent Act.
