Charlottesville Boy Celebrates Birthday by Hosting Coat Drive
A Charlottesville boy who celebrated his 13th birthday by collecting coats to donate to kids in need wants to let everyone know there are still some left over.
Ashton Ryan hosted his second annual Birthday Coat Drive in the Seminole Square Shopping Center November 10. The party featured games, a moon bounce, and a live band. Charlottesville police and fire crews also set up shop for people to check out their equipment.
Ryan says he hopes his birthday gift to others inspires more kids to give back to their community.
"It makes me really happy because everybody coming together - people should do this a lot more. It's really awesome," he said.
Last year, Ryan collected more than 560 coats at his birthday bash. He's hoping to donate a thousand this year.
Anyone in need of a coat - in a child's or adult's size - can email Ashton at firstname.lastname@example.org.
