University of Virginia Police Press Release

The University of Virginia Police Department anticipates traffic congestion this evening as UVA Athletics hosts multiple events. The Virginia men’s basketball team hosts its first home game against JMU at 7:00 p.m. to a near sell-out crowd and Virginia men’s soccer hosts Boston College at 7:00 p.m.

Men’s soccer parking is available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Emmet/Ivy Garage. This is a change to fans who are accustomed to parking in the U-Hall, John Paul Jones Arena and McCue Center parking lots.

Men’s basketball parking is available to those with basketball permits at the U-Hall, John Paul Jones Arena and McCue Center parking lots. General parking is available at The Park on a first-come, first-serve basis (a free accessible shuttle begins at 5:30 p.m.), and the Culbreth Garage on a first-come, first-serve basis. See the attached parking map provided by the UVA Athletics Department for additional details.

Fans are advised to:

Plan for additional travel time--arrive early to avoid delays. Reserve permit holders should clearly display their hang-tag to traffic control officers. Drivers should be aware of pedestrians and traffic control officers.Pedestrians are asked to utilized the designated/marked pedestrian crossing and avoid walking in the roadways. The post event traffic plan for men’s basketball directs all traffic away from the arena until traffic is cleared from the arena lots. Arrange for any post event pick-up location with that in mind.
