Waynesboro Police Department Press Release
The Waynesboro Police Department has arrested a Roanoke woman on three misdemeanor charges after a mid-day motor vehicle crash at a city motel. Shannon Hendrica Wright, 34 years old, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, refusal of a breath test and hit & run to unattended property.
Around noon on November 5, 2013, officers responded to the Royal Inn, 2112 W Main St, for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a structure. When officers arrived, they found that a vehicle had struck the brick pillars in front of the guest room building and had fled the scene.
The Waynesboro Fire Department installed temporary supports to keep the hotels overhang from collapsing. While officers were gathering evidence and speaking to witnesses, they were advised that the suspect and her vehicle were presently at Budget Inn which is one block away.
Officers found Wright and her 2002 Kia Sedona mini-van parked behind the main office. The vehicle still had rubble from the Royal Inn on its roof and windshield. Wright showed obvious signs of intoxication and did not recall hitting the building. She has been released on bond.
There were no injuries from the crash. Damage to the hotel is estimated $1000; damage to the vehicle is estimated at $1700.
