Albemarle Police Investigate Officer-Involved Hit and Run
Albemarle County Police are trying to find the driver who hit one of their cruisers Tuesday night then drove away. The accident happened at 11:30 p.m. on the exit ramp from Interstate 64 to Fifth Street.
A white Ford Windstar van, believed to be the one involved, was found a short time later, but the driver had taken off.
The officer was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with minor injuries. He was treated and released.

The Albemarle County Police Department is investigating a hit and run crash involving one of our police officers. The crash happened at 11:28 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5th.
The officer, driving a marked cruiser, was stopped at the traffic light on Exit 120 from Westbound I-64 to turn onto 5th Street Extended. Without slowing down, a white Ford Windstar van drove onto the exit ramp, hitting the police cruiser from behind. The police officer was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with minor injuries and has been treated and released. The driver of the van fled the scene immediately after the crash.
The vehicle was recovered at 11:32 p.m. in the 600 block of Mist Court in Albemarle County. The driver was not located with the vehicle and has not yet been identified. Anyone with any information regarding crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
