Culpeper County Official Sues Prosecutor Over Email

Posted: Updated:

CULPEPER, Va. (AP) - Culpeper County's prosecutor is being sued by another county official who claims she libeled him in a recent email.

Media outlets report that county supervisor William C. Chase Jr. filed a $1.75 million libel lawsuit against Commonwealth's Attorney Megan R. Frederick on Monday.

In a Sept. 12 email to supporters, Frederick praised supervisors Larry Aylor and Brad Rosenberger for opposing funding for a new sheriff's office building. She stated that the other supervisors were incompetent and corrupt.

Chase's lawsuit says that Frederick's allegations are false and constitute libel.

Both Chase and Frederick declined to comment on the lawsuit.

In early October, the Board of Supervisors filed a complaint against Frederick with the state bar over the email.
