STAB Field Hockey wins 4-3; Advances to State Semifinals
The Saint Anne's Belfield field hockey team beat Cape Henry Collegiate 4-3 in overtime Tuesday to advance to the state semifinals.
The Saints got goals from Lauren Gampper and Isabell Scholz in regulation. The game went to overtime tied at two. STAB'S Annie Corey and Sadie Bryant both scored in overtime.
Bryant says, "It was just a slide or chip, it was a last effort at the ball, I was just trying to make it in there. It was good to finally capitalize on all we've been working on throughout the season, it's a great feeling."
Corey says, "When we put seven on the field that really opens everything up, I was just able to kind of do my thing, I was so lucky that goal went in, I thought it was going wide, I was panicked so it was such a relief and it felt so good... All of our hard work in just one shot."
STAB now has a record of 17-3. The Saints will travel to Virginia Beach on Friday to play St. Catherine's in the state semifinals. STAB has never won a state championship in field hockey.
