Harrisonburg Police Department Press Release
On November 4, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Harrisonburg Police responded to the Sheetz Convenience store, located at 798 East Market Street, for a report of an armed robbery. On location, officers determined a subject entered the store, displayed a weapon, and demanded money and cigarettes. The subject was last seen leaving the store on foot heading East on Country Club Road.
Officers began a search of the area utilizing officers from the K-9 division. The K-9 unit was able to locate a track that led to the railroad tracks under the East Market Street overpass located in the 1000 block of East Market Street.
A male subject was identified in this area that matched the suspect description. In addition, a weapon, cigarettes, and US Currency were found in the location where the suspect was identified.
The suspect was identified as a juvenile, 14, and from Harrisonburg. The suspect was charged with one count of 18.2-58, armed robbery, a felony in Virginia.
Lt. Chris Rush, Division Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, states, “The rapid closure of this case is an example of many facets of law enforcement collaborating together. Units from the HPD K-9, Patrol, and Investigations Units, along with assistance of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office Patrol, were able to work together quickly and efficiently, which ultimately made apprehending the suspect quicker.
