WAYNESBORO, Va (WVIR) -
Waynesboro Police Department Press Release
The Waynesboro Police Department has arrested a Waynesboro man after an overnight, alcohol fueled argument sent both the suspect and victim to the emergency room with stab wounds. Grant Dewayne Keyser, 34 years old of Waynesboro, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated malicious wounding in the incident. Just after midnight on November 4, the 49 year old male victim rushed into the Police Department’s lobby with stab wounds on both arms. He indicated that he and Keyser were at an apartment in the 200 block of Port Republic Road drinking alcohol when an argument ensued. According to the victim, Keyser grabbed a large kitchen knife and began stabbing him. The shoeless victim ran from the apartment to the Police Department, which is approximately a half mile away. The Waynesboro First Aid Crew transported the victim to Augusta Health’s emergency department where he was treated and released after receiving several stitches.
Approximately an two hours later, officers returned to the apartment with a search warrant and arrest warrant in an attempt to find Keyser but to no avail. However, they did find a bloody scene and collected several kitchen knives for evidence. At approximately 3:00 AM, officers returned to the apartment and found Keyser who was intoxicated. After a brief stand-off, during which he held officers at bay by brandishing knives and then throwing one at them, Keyser was subdued when an officer used a Taser on him. He was taken into custody and transported to Augusta Health due to a minor self-inflicted stab wound.
At 7:45 AM, Keyser was discharged from Augusta Health and transported to Middle River Regional Jail. He will be held until sober, at which point he will have a bond hearing with the magistrate.
