Charlottesville City Council will consider allowing a developer to build another UVA student housing complex on West Main Street.

Monday night, council members will review a special use permit request for "The Standard" - which would be built in place of what is now the Republic Plaza. That's right across the street from another student apartment complex under construction.

"It's not quite as we anticipated as what West Main would look like and I certainly wouldn't want too much student housing along West Main because what we're hoping for along that corridor is a mix of residential and business," Charlottesville's vice-mayor Kristin Szakos said.

The planning commission recommends council approve the permit, but the decision was not unanimous. City council will take up the issue at its meeting Monday night.
