Rivanna Conservation Society Training Guardians for River

Posted: Updated:

The Rivanna River is undergoing a makeover this fall.

Over the next few weeks, the Rivanna Conservation Society will be training its Rivanna River Guardians.  This is a group of people dedicated to improving the river's water quality.

Saturday, the guardians learned how to monitor chemicals and bacteria.

Robbi Savage with the Rivanna Conservation Society said, "We look for how much oxygen is in the river, we want to know about the temperature because that's important because fish generally like cold water, and then we look for how clear the water is."

The Rivanna River Guardians will document all the information and send it to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the World Water Monitoring Day Network.
