Kaine Feels Positive after First Budget Conference Committee Meeting
Senator Tim Kaine cast his absentee ballot Friday morning in downtown Richmond. He will be in Washington Tuesday, and unable to make it to his official polling place.
Senators Kaine and Mark Warner are both members of a conference committee selected to hammer out an elusive bipartisan budget on Capitol Hill by mid-December. Kaine says the group's first meeting this week left him feeling encouraged.
"Expressed preferences, thoughts about how to solve the problem, but didn't lay, didn't draw a lot of lines in the sand. And that's what we'll need to fix it," said Kaine.
The committee has until December 13 to come up with a budget compromise. The deal passed to end the federal shutdown last month will fund the government through January 15.
