Thanks to the generosity of an Albemarle County man, the Sheriff's Office is the owner of a brand-new truck and it didn't cost taxpayers a dime.
Allen Powell donated the truck to tow the mobile search and rescue unit. Sheriff Chip Harding says the new truck will make it easier for rescue crews to get on the scene quickly.
"Before it was, 'well who’s got a truck' and 'where is the trailer located' and 'go pick it up' and 'come back.' It would take several hours you know to get it on location, so we should be ready to rock and roll as soon as we get a call,” said Harding.
Powell officially handed over the keys Friday at the Sheriff's Office's annual appreciation banquet at the armory on Avon Street.
