Yancey Elementary Car Show to Fundraise for Afterschool Programs
Yancey Elementary School is revving up for its annual fundraiser to continue giving students a place to go after school. The school is sponsoring a car show Saturday, and community members are rolling out their classic rides.
The show supports the program Club Yancey, which gives working parents a safe place for their kids to go after school. School leaders say most parents at Yancey commute to Charlottesville and would have no way of picking their child up otherwise.
"With both parents working in the household, it's always good to have a place where you know your kids are safe. The kids actually know all of the volunteers, know all the teachers,” said parent Devaughn Anderson.
The show will also feature a raffle and prizes. The fun gears up at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cutright's Lake in North Garden.
