Simulator Prepares Charlottesville Police Cadets for the Field
The Charlottesville Citizen’s Police Academy is using a firearms simulator to show cadets what officers encounter in the field.
The simulations show cadets parts of police work they can't get from a book. It provides scenarios to set up split-second decisions like whether or not to shoot.
"It's a good training tool. It sharpens their skills looking forward where individuals may carry firearms so that you're really conscious of what's going on around you at all times,” said Lt. Ronnie Roberts with the Charlottesville Police Department.
The eight-week course covers everything from investigations to gang prevention and SWAT team operations.
