Hearing Held on Proposed Changes to Verona Intersection
The intersection of Laurel Hill and Indian Mound roads
An Augusta County intersection with safety issues is being addressed and Tuesday night, the public weighed in on VDOT's plan.
There's plan in place to fix the intersection of Laurel Hill and Indian Mound roads in Verona. It calls for a dedicated left turn lane on Laurel Hill Road, removing the "Y" configuration on Indian Mound Road, and relocating the entrance to Energizer Holdings.
Jeff Cleveland, a property owner at the intersection, says he's not sure the plan will work.
"Been a lot of wrecks there on the corner. The speed limit doesn't mean anything to people. They still run too fast through there. It's a 45-mile-an-hour zone, but they still run too fast through there. So I know something needs to be done, but I'd rather see a stop light," he said.
The roughly $2 million project is expected to go for construction bids in two years.
