"Hoo's Losin' It" Program Aims to Keep UVA Employees Healthy

Posted: Updated: 10/30/2013 10:10:26 AM

University of Virginia employees who want to lose weight can sign up for a program aimed to help them get fit and stay healthy. The "Hoo's Losin' It" program offers participants fitness training and nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian.

Up to 14 people will be accepted for the initiative that runs from January through June of next year. Organizers say people interested should have a body mass index between 30 and 40 and be actively enrolled in the UVA health plan.

“It's not a fad diet and we all know that fad diets don't work and so we really teach sustainable lifestyle changes that they can continue with - not just for the six-month program, but for the rest of their life,” said Amy Mentikoski, an outpatient registered dietitian.

Interested employees must attend an orientation session on either November 20 or December 5. Those sessions are from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the UVA Aquatic and Fitness Center.
