Renovations Completed on Historic Buildings in Cville

Historic buildings that faced the wrecking ball are now fully renovated on Charlottesville's downtown mall.

Woodard Properties bought the buildings between the corner of First and East Main streets and the Wells Fargo Bank in 2003. The company abandoned a previous owner's plans to demolish the block and, instead, opted to renovate.

The $2.5 million makeover includes the Old Metropolitan Hall event center and 11 apartments overlooking the downtown mall.

Keith Woodard of Woodard Properties said, "The downtown area is just really popular now, and living on the mall is a real treat for a lot of people. We've had really good response. It was an opportunity to take something that was really bad and make it into something that's a nice addition to the mall."

Woodard Properties is offering tours of Old Metropolitan Hall and the apartments during an open house Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
