Albemarle Fire Department Provides Halloween Safety Tips

Posted: Updated:

The Albemarle County Fire Department wants to make sure everyone stays safe on Halloween and is providing some tips for the public.

It recommends checking the candy you receive to make sure the wrapper is sealed and that it doesn't contain any potential allergens. The Fire Department says while Halloween is exciting, it's also important to walk - not run - from house to house to prevent falling into the road. But they say the biggest safety precaution is to make sure that you can be seen.

"We're looking for people to be seen and to be safe, just to wear reflective clothing, maybe have a glow stick, some way to be seen so that the driving public can make sure that they know where you are,” said Shawn Maddox, assistant fire marshal.

They also say any costume that affects your ability to walk should be avoided.
