Proffit Road in Albemarle County will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday as Virginia Department of Transportation crews replace a drainage pipe that carries stormwater runoff under the road.
The pipe is between Polo Grounds Road and the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks.
Traffic from Route 20 will be detoured to Route 29 via Route 643. Message boards are in place.

CULPEPER - Route 649 (Proffit Road) in Albemarle County will be closed to through traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 29 and 30, for replacement of a drainage pipe that carries storm water runoff under the road.
The work will be done on a pipe located just west of Route 741 (Mossing Run Road), between Route 643 (Polo Grounds Road) and the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks at Proffit.
Traffic traveling west from Route 20 (Stony Point Road) will be detoured to Route 29 (Seminole Trail) via Route 643. Eastbound traffic heading from Route 29 to Route 20 should also use Route 643. Local traffic will be able to travel Route 649 between Route 29 and east of the railroad bridge, and from Route 643 to the work zone. Message boards are in place on nearby roads to inform motorists of next week's closure.
