Albemarle School Bus Drivers Honored for Safety Milestone

Posted: Updated:

Albemarle County school bus drivers have traveled 4 million miles without an accident endangering their precious cargo, and were recognized for that safety success.

The school transportation department held a breakfast banquet Tuesday morning for their drivers in honor of National School Bus Safety Week.

Jim Foley, Albemarle schools' director of transportation, says the appreciation is well deserved.

"We're very proud of our driving staff, our assistants, our mechanics, dispatchers, all the support staff. It's a real team effort to get students to school safely every morning and home safely in the afternoon," Foley said.

Foley encourages all parents to have their children ride the bus to school. He says it's safer and more environmentally friendly than driving them themselves.
