A memorial at Madison County High School is honoring a senior student killed in a car crash on homecoming weekend.
Friends painted a memorial on Lane Warren's assigned parking spot - number 125 - in the high school lot. The 18-year-old was driving along a rain-slicked Carpenters Mill Road on Saturday, October 12 when his car spun out of control.
Madison County High School's principal, Mike Sisler, says more than 800 people attended a memorial service for Warren last Friday.
"I don't think anybody will ever forget Lane and forget the situation. I think they are remorseful and they're trying to do positive things in remembrance of Lane," Sisler said.
State police say speed was a factor in that crash. Warren's 16-year-old female passenger is still recovering at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
