Redskins Meriweather Suspended For Two Games

Posted: Updated:

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather has been suspended for two games by the NFL for a pair of helmet-first hits.

The league announced Monday that Meriweather will sit out this week against the Denver Broncos and the following game against the San Diego Chargers.

Meriweather can appeal the suspension. If he does, a hearing will be held before the Broncos game.

Meriweather was flagged for personal fouls on defenseless receivers in the third and fourth quarters of Sunday's 45-41 win over the Chicago Bears.

In issuing the suspension, the league cited Meriweather's status as a repeat offender. He was fined $42,000 for a helmet-first hit on Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy in Week 2.
Meriweather may not participate in any football activities with the team during the suspension.
