JABA Launches Programs to Serve CaregiversPosted: Updated:
Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) Press Release
New short-term stay option at Mountainside Senior Living in Crozet and evening caregivers support group in Charlottesville help reduce caregivers' stress.
Charlottesville & Crozet, VA (October 21, 2013) — According to The National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP, 29 percent of adults in the US provide care to someone who is ill, disabled or aged. For these caregivers, helping a loved one can be a 24/7 job, often in addition to other family as well as professional obligations. To help caregivers in Central Virginia take a break, refresh and recharge, JABA has added two services.
Travel, for even a weekend away, presents special challenges for both the caregiver and his or her loved one. In response, some high-end and chain assisted living facilities have begun to offer respite care. These short-term stays are designed to support the guest's special needs, while providing peace of mind for the caregiver.
Now JABA's award-winning Mountainside Senior Living in Crozet brings an affordable respite care option to Central Virginia. No minimum stay is required, and respite guests enjoy the full range of Mountainside's amenities: comfortable room with mountain view, three healthy meals and snacks (special diets accommodated,) daily activities and outings, round-the-clock medical care, housekeeping are all covered in the $100 per day inclusive fee. Safety and security are the highest priority, with trained and attentive staff onsite round the clock.
After-Hours Support Group
JABA launched its free Caregivers Support Group in 2008 as a way for caregivers to share concerns, questions and experiences with each other. To accommodate workday schedules JABA has added an after-work session. The group now meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, and on the first Thursday of each month from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at JABA's Adult Care Center, 674 Hillsdale Drive in Charlottesville. Care recipients are welcome in the Adult Care Center during the meeting, so caregivers can concentrate on their own needs. The session is free for both the caregivers and their loved ones.
