Albemarle Parks and Rec Throws Picnic for Volunteers

Posted: Updated:

A group of volunteers is spending the next few months cleaning up parks across Albemarle County.

Albemarle County staff thanked the volunteers for their previous hard work during a picnic and barbecue at Mint Springs Valley Park Saturday afternoon. The group is also planning future projects for fall and winter.

"This is the first of what we hope will be an annual event where we can invite everyone who has been so much involved in the work we are doing out here and recognize them," said Dan Mahon of the Albemarle County Parks Department.

Mahon says the group's latest accomplishment is opening up new trails at Byrom Park.

The volunteers hope to continue maintaining the new trails and say they are looking for areas to build more.
