UVA Foundation Presents Check to Wounded Warrior Project
$107,000 check presented to the Wounded Warrior Project Friday.
One of Charlottesville's biggest 5K races raised more than $100,000 to help wounded veterans. The University of Virginia Foundation presented a check for $107,000 to representatives from the Wounded Warrior Project Friday.
The group held its third annual 4 the Wounded 5K event back in June. Organizers say their work in the UVA Research Park off Route 29 really connects them to the project.
"Many of the representatives on that committee were from companies that are in the UVA Research Park, and many of those companies in our research park have friends and families and/or themselves were actually active military," said Deborah van Eersel of the UVA Foundation.
The Wounded Warrior Project helps injured veterans transition from military to civilian life here at home. The Charlottesville Track Club was a partner for this year's event.
