Head of VA Ed Board Continuing Statewide TourPosted: Updated:
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The head of the Virginia Board of Education is continuing his statewide listening tour with stops in Harrisonburg.
Board President David Foster will begin a two-day visit on Thursday to schools in the region that includes 19 school divisions in the Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Mountains and Piedmont.
Officials say the tour is designed to give parents, teachers, local school board members, administrators and others an opportunity to express their views on issues facing the state's public schools.
The board is responsible for setting public school policies, including curriculum and accountability standards, and licensure requirements for educators.
Foster plans to visit Virginia's eight educational administrative regions by the end of the year. He's joined by a fellow board member on each stop.
