(Charlottesville, Va.) – The Move2Health campaign reached its goal of one million minutes at around 6 p.m. on October 14. At that time, JAUNT, United Way Thomas Jefferson Area, and Grace Episcopal Church in Massies Mill were ranked at the top of the leader board for highest average number of minutes per participant, respectively. Region Ten Community Services Board, ACAC Fitness & Wellness Centers, and City of Charlottesville were the top three for the highest total of minutes moved, respectively.
Now that the campaign has reached its initial goal two months ahead of schedule, UVA Head Baseball Coach Move2Health Chair Brian O'Connor is challenging the community to a triple play.
"We are off to a fantastic start," said O'Connor. "Let's triple Move2Health's impact. What if each person signed up for Move2Health got two more people to join the campaign? Organization leaders can encourage two more leaders to enroll their business in the campaign. I think our community has the motivation and commitment to get to three million minutes moved by the year's end!"
Move2Health asks that all current participants invite two more individuals and two organizations to join the campaign in order to triple participation, as well as minutes moved, by the end of the year.
Move2Health encourages residents of the greater Charlottesville area to add more physical activity to their daily routines. Participants log their minutes of activity on the Move2Health website. The campaign's current challenge is for everyone to move 30 minutes a day, five days a week, with an ultimate challenge goal to reach three million minutes moved by December 31, 2013.
Residents living and/or working in the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson counties can register for Move2Health online at www.Move2HealthCentralVa.org and download the mobile app from Google Play or the iTunes Store.
