Former UVa Star Anthony Poindexter Inducted into VHSL Hall of Fame
Former Virginia football standout Anthony Poindexter was inducted into the Virginia High School Hall of Fame Monday night at the Double Tree Hotel in Charlottesville.
Poindexter was a two-time All American as a safety at UVa and was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 1998.
UVA retired his jersey and Poindexter continued his football career for three years in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.
Poindexter went to Jefferson Forest High School in Lynchburg Virginia where he was a three sport standout in football, baseball, and basketball. Poindexter was the 1993 AP Group AA Player of the Year and earned a first state selection as a junior and senior when he guided the Cavaliers to back-to-back state championships as a quarterback and safety.
Poindexter said, "for my high school, coming from a small town, being able to represent them. To be the first athlete to be a hall of famer from that school is exciting. Clearly being able to represent UVa is exciting as well. I didn't think it would come this early in my lifetime but you know it's been a great honor."
